This website is intended to be used as a digital resource that collects, maps, and provides source documents identifying various water resources found in Waipā, Haleleʻa, Kauaʻi. The ahupuaʻa of Waipā is indeed a special place abundant with wai, freshwater. The water that flows through these lands contribute to the momona of the ʻāina and the nourishment of the community whose lives are enriched by its flow. Utilizing historic documents, this research aims to identify and recover the names of Waipā's water resources, allowing ancestral names to be returned to the memories of today's community and the lands of which these names belong to. 

 

The significance of names, the giving of names, and the continued use of place names honors the intimacy that exists between people and their resources.
